Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds Reporting
McKendree University received federal funds under the CARES, CRRSAA and ARP acts,
which are described below. This page contains reporting related to the used of those
funds. This information will be available through December 31, 2025.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (the “Act”) was signed
into law on March 27, 2020. Section 18004 of the Act created the Higher Education
Emergency Relief Fund (“HEERF”) for distribution to colleges and universities, intended
to help offset costs to students and institutions resulting from campus disruptions
due to the Coronavirus. The Department of Education allocated $1,636,302 to McKendree University, of which
$818,151 was to be disbursed to students.
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) was signed
into law on December 27, 2020. Section 314 of the CRRSAA created a second Higher
Education Emergency Relief Fund called HEERF II to provide emergency financial aid
assistance to students and institutions of higher education. Funds may be used to
defray expenses associated with coronavirus, carry out student support activities
that address needs related to coronavirus or provide financial aid grants to students,
which may be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency
costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, technology, food, housing, health
care (including mental health care) or child care. The Department of Education allocated
$2,686,549 to McKendree University, of which $818,151 was to be disbursed to students.
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) was signed into law on March 11, 2021. The Plan created
a third Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (“HEERF III”) for distribution to colleges
and universities, intended to help offset costs to students and institutions resulting
from campus disruptions due to the Coronavirus. This report is required by Section
314(e) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA)
and is published here pursuant to the guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Education.
The Department of Education allocated $4,727,674 to McKendree University, of which
$2,419,138 was to be disbursed to students.
